This is the existing rear of the the home. We will have to demo the porch, shrubs, patio, and the lower roof between the downspouts. In addition, by local code, the meter has to be relocated to the side of the house and in this case we plan on burying the service along the fenceline.

Because we don't want to put a dumpster in the street out front, inconvenient to the neighborhood (narrow street) and the job, and since a standard 30 yard container won't fit, we have chosen Neat Sweep with their smaller 4x10 containers which fit neatly on the property between the garage and the alley way.

Our concrete foundation subcontractor arrives with his equipment for excavating the footings.

Whenever a house is built, even if it is 80 years ago, the original excavation is backfilled with loose fill that, despite many years of rain and use, never gets compacted to allow for a new load. This material has to be removed down to a level where the soil has been undisturbed and has the compressive strength to sustain the weight of the addition without sinking. Here we have excavated down to the existing footing and out away from the existing house to undisturbed soil. We will also remove the topsoil within the foundation crawl which will decay.

This is a great little machine that carry a load of concrete from the truck and tilts to dump it in the footing. Here it is being prepared with a releasing agent.
